Recitals

Whereas, December 21 marks the first day of winter and the longest night of the year and communities across the country have chosen this day to remember men and women who have died without a place to call home.

Whereas, safe, decent, and affordable housing has become increasingly inaccessible due to rising costs, racial inequities such as housing segregation, inadequate incomes, the decline of affordable units, and structural inequities.

Whereas, people experiencing homelessness have higher rates of chronic disease, are more susceptible to illness and injury, and are significantly more likely to die prematurely than their housed counterparts.

Whereas, Baltimore City joins communities nationwide to remember those who have died without a secure place to live, and to recognize that every member of society should have the right to safe and affordable housing.

Whereas, Baltimore City has committed to making homelessness a rare and brief experience, we recommit our community to working for affordable housing, livable incomes, and accessible healthcare, which we recognize as fundamental to the goal of ending homelessness.
