Investigational Hearing - Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant
For the purpose of inviting the City Solicitor and representatives from the Department of Public Works, the Baltimore City Health Department, the Environmental Control Board, the Maryland Department of the Environment, the Maryland Department of Health, including the Environmental Health Bureau, the Maryland Environmental Service, and other relevant stakeholders to brief the City Council regarding recent events at the Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant as well as ongoing mitigation efforts.

Whereas, the Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant (“the Back River Plant”), located at 8201 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21224, is responsible for the treatment of 180 million gallons of wastewater a day.

Whereas, adequate treatment of wastewater at the Back River Plant is integral to the environmental health of the surrounding area, including both the Back River and Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Whereas, ongoing events at the Back River Plant have resulted in illegal discharges of partially treated wastewater into the Back River and prompted the Maryland Environmental Service to take charge of operations at the Back River Plant.
