For the purpose of inviting representatives from the Baltimore City Police Department, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, the Deputy Mayor of Public Safety, the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, and relevant community groups to engage in a discussion with the City Council regarding the recent rise in violent crime at gas stations throughout Baltimore City, including a discussion of options to prevent or mitigate such occurrences.

Whereas, in recent months, instances of violent crime at gas stations have been prevalent throughout Baltimore City.

Whereas, cases include a triple shooting at a station in northwest Baltimore in April, a fatal shooting in northeast Baltimore in June, and a shooting involving two minors, ages 14 and 15, in east Baltimore in May.

Whereas, this trend is extremely concerning, especially considering that gas stations are inherently public places that provide not only fuel, but also convenience stores and automotive services for many residents.

Whereas, it is imperative that the City work to prevent violent crime from occurring at gas stations to ensure the safety of residents.
