Monthly Council Stat Meetings for Baltimore City Police Department
For the purpose of calling for the Baltimore City Police Department to participate in monthly Council Stat Meetings in order to provide more frequent legislative oversight into the Department’s fight to reduce crime in Baltimore.

Recitals
Whereas, In recent years, the City Council’s Public Safety Committee has instituted quarterly Oversight Hearings with the Baltimore Police Department to monitor the Department’s progress on its crime fighting plan.
Whereas, Baltimore reached its highest murder rate per capita in 2017, with 342
people murdered, and has suffered 140 murders through July 5th of this year.
Whereas, Historically the office of CitiStat would also be aggressive in its oversight of the Police Department, but that is not yet the case with the newly created Mayor’s Office of
Sustainable Solutions.
Whereas, In a letter written to the City Council on June 8, 2018, the Mayor’s Office of Sustainable Solutions wrote that it was in the finishing stages of reviewing performance measures for the Police Department.
Whereas, Although the City Council does not have legislative authority over the Baltimore City Police Department, due to the Department’s status as a state agency, it most certainly has a duty for the lives of Baltimore’s citizens.
