Baltimore Innovation Week - September 20-29, 2013
 
FOR the purpose of recognizing September 20-29, 2013 as Baltimore Innovation Week; encouraging all Baltimoreans to participate in the series of scheduled events, conversations, and actions around technology and innovation; and commending the broad technology community for creating jobs, increasing community, and remaining committed to making a better Baltimore through technology.

  WHEREAS, Baltimore's innovation, technology, and creative communities are again coming together for the 2nd Annual Baltimore Innovation Week.
 
  WHEREAS, These communities  - with leadership from local technology news organization Technical.ly Baltimore  - are planning dozens of events around the theme of "making a better Baltimore through technology" for the week of September 20th to 29th, 2013.
 
  WHEREAS, This year's program aims to build off the success of last year's inaugural Innovation Week that featured more than 30 events, 1500 attendees, and a dozen project launches.
 
  WHEREAS, Innovation Week includes events such as Battle O' Baltimore's FIRST Robotics Competition, WordCamp Baltimore, Family Game Jam, Women/InTech conference, Ignite Baltimore, discussions with Baltimore technology, creative, entrepreneurship, and civic leaders, and many others.
 
 
  WHEREAS, participating organizations include Technical.ly Baltimore, the Maryland Technology Development Corp. (TEDCO), the Greater Baltimore Technology Council, the Emerging Technology Center, the Howard County Economic Development Authority, the Maryland Institute College of Art, SmartLogic, Startup Maryland, the Greater Baltimore Creative Alliance, the Station North Arts and Entertainment District, Apigee, FabLab Baltimore, Advertising.com, 2ndQuadrant, EventRebels, Wasabi Ventures, Firaxis Games, Code in the Schools, VIM Interactive, Refresh Baltimore, WordCamp Baltimore, the Gathering Baltimore, TEDxBaltimore, TechBreakfast, What Weekly, the Maryland Chapter of the Social Enterprise Alliance, CoFounders Lab, Boy's Latin, Startup Grind Baltimore, FIRST BAA, BaltimoreGamer.com, Hack Baltimore, Startup Maryland, Tech Cocktail, Baltimore Social Media Meetup, Betamore, Ignite Baltimore, University of Maryland BioPark, Johns Hopkins University, Greater Baltimore Committee, and AT&T.
 
  WHEREAS, together, these organizations, and the thousands of inspired individuals who will be participating in Innovation Week, have the potential to reshape Baltimore for the better in many ways; and their commitment to doing so should be celebrated.
 
  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, that the Council recognizes September 20-29, 2013 as Baltimore Innovation Week; encourages all Baltimoreans to participate in the series of scheduled events, conversations, and actions around technology and innovation; and commends the broad technology community for creating jobs, increasing community, and remaining committed to making a better Baltimore through technology.  
   
   AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor, the organizers of Baltimore Innovation Week, and the Mayor's Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
