Recitals

For years Baltimore’s Government has looked at reducing violence simply through the eyes of policing.  However, anyone who looks beyond the surface of violence can easily determine that there are many ways for all government agencies to impact violence.  As Baltimore continues to move towards treating violence as a disease it is critical that there be a coordinated violence reduction strategy between all city agencies.  Having such coordination is paramount to seeing long term violence reduction in Baltimore.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of Baltimore, That the Council requests that the Baltimore Police Commissioner, the Baltimore Health Commissioner, the Director of Department of Public Works, the Director of Transportation, the Director of Recreation and Parks, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, the Baltimore Housing Commissioner, the Director of CitiStat, and the President of the Baltimore Development Corporation present to it on a coordinated violence reduction strategy for Baltimore.

And be it further resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor of Baltimore, the Baltimore Police Commissioner, the Baltimore Health Commissioner, the Director of Department of Public Works, the Director of Transportation, the Director of Recreation and Parks, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, the Baltimore Housing Commissioner, the Director of CitiStat, the President of the Baltimore Development Corporation, and the Mayor’s Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
