Guns for Bail Program in Baltimore
For the purpose of expressing support for the creation of a Guns for Bail program in Baltimore and requesting that law enforcement and other stakeholders appear before the City Council to discuss how the program could be created, what partnerships and procedures need to be put in place to make the program successful, and how to provide it with the necessary human and financial resources.

Recitals
Illegal guns are at involved in a overwhelming amount of the violence happening on the streets of Baltimore. In recent years our Police Department has focused its efforts on removing illegal guns and the persons who used them to commit crimes on Baltimore’s streets. In addition, the city has held gun buy backs and other events in the past in attempts to get guns off of the streets.
Many have pushed for innovative ways to recover some of these weapons and allowing them to be turned in in lieu of bail could be a great way to achieve multiple goals. Baltimore is in a gun violence crisis and we need to strongly consider any viable way to get guns off our streets.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of Baltimore, That the Council supports the creation of a Guns for Bail program in Baltimore and requests that law enforcement and other stakeholders appear before it to discuss how the program could...
