Whereas, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ("BSO") was founded by the City of Baltimore, in 1916, for the citizens of Baltimore, and bears the distinction of being the only major orchestra in the United States established as a municipal entity;

Whereas, The BSO performs the highest quality symphonic music, of all eras, that nurtures the human spirit and is committed to engaging, inspiring, educating, and serving its audiences, in a fiscally responsible manner, and contributes to making the State of Maryland a cultural center of vitality and importance;

Whereas, The BSO is internationally recognized as having achieved a preeminent place among the world's most important orchestras and is acclaimed for its enduring pursuit of artistic excellence, while maintaining deep bonds in Maryland through innovative education and community outreach initiatives;
