Whereas, The majority of middle school and high school students that attend Baltimore City public schools use a form of transportation run by the Maryland Transit Administration (“MTA”) to travel to and from school;

Whereas, The MTA struggles to provide transportation for these students during normal times;

Whereas, The Baltimore City Public School System will begin the school year with virtual-only instruction but is planning for an in-person option to begin later in the fall; and

Whereas, The City Council needs to know how the MTA is preparing to follow proper safety protocols once students begin returning to the classroom.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of Baltimore, That the City Council invites representatives from the Maryland Transit Administration, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation, and the Baltimore City Public School System to provide the City Council with information regarding the Maryland Transit Administration’s response to the pandemic and plans for the upcoming school year.

And be it further resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Director of the Maryland Transit Administration, the Director of the Baltimore City Department of Transportation, the CEO of the Baltimore City Public School System, and the Mayor’s Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
