Whereas, Baltimore City Public School students receive free lunch each day during the school year;
Whereas, while many students bring their own lunch, the majority of our students take advantage of the free lunch program;
Whereas, students and parents are interested in how lunch times will change in the time of COVID;
Whereas, a number of students have complained that (1) there is not enough food variety in school lunches, and (2) they have no choice in which foods make up their school lunches; and
Whereas, students have valuable ideas about how to address these issues, including creating opportunities for student preferences in the school lunch program.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of Baltimore, That the Council invites Baltimore City Public School System students, the Chief Executive Office of the Baltimore City Public School System, and any relevant Baltimore City Public School System staff to discuss with the Council their ideas and concerns about public school lunches.
And be it further resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor, the Chief Executive Officer of the Baltimore City School System, and the Mayor’s Legislative Liaison to the Baltimore City Council.
