Many Baltimore City residents, approximately 2,500, suffer from homelessness on any given night. Residents experiencing homelessness are especially vulnerable to abuse and crime. Some residents that experience homelessness work but cannot afford housing, while other residents that experience homelessness may suffer from mental health problems that make employment and coordination with social workers especially difficult. Some residents that experience homelessness are children. With the beginning of a new year, the City Council is interested in what City agencies are doing to combat homelessness and what goals these agencies have for 2019.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of Baltimore, That the Baltimore City Council calls on City agencies working on the problem of homelessness, including the Mayor’s Office of Human Services, the Department of Social Services, and the Baltimore City Public School System, to update the City Council on the state of homelessness in Baltimore City and what the agencies are doing to combat it.
And be it further resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Human Services, the Director of Homeless Services, the Director of the Community Action Partnership, the Director of the Department of Social Services, the CEO of the Public School System, and the Mayor’s Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
