In Support of St. Casimir Students’ Efforts to Safeguard the Chesapeake Bay

FOR the purpose of expressing support for the ideas put forth by the students of St. Casimir Catholic School with the goal of improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay and other local water sources, specifying the strategies suggested by these students, and calling upon leaders in Baltimore City and in the State of Maryland to focus their efforts on this critical issue.

WHEREAS, The students of St. Casimir Catholic School, located in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore City, have worked diligently to draft legislation to make Baltimore City a better place.

WHEREAS, The students determined that the health of the Chesapeake Bay and other local water sources is of critical importance to the well-being of Baltimore residents.

WHEREAS, As the result of an in-depth review process the students have offered a comprehensive list of strategies, including:

· Making proper disposal of waste more accessible by providing additional trash and recycling bins, especially near the water, and increasing collection for these bins;

· Designating officers to patrol for problem behaviors such as littering;

· Creating a community clean-up organization;

· Utilizing volunteers to clean the water on a regularly scheduled basis;
