Recitals

The recently ended 2011 YouthWorks program should be celebrated for once again providing thousands of young people with meaningful summer work experiences. Still, even as we celebrate these successes, it is important to examine ways that the program could be improved.

At a June hearing called by the City Council to review the state of the YouthWorks program, administrators were able to provide a great deal of helpful information and a number of ideas for improvements were raised. One of these ideas in particular merits further consideration with an eye towards implementation in the near future.

This idea concerns the registration process that begins a young person’s experience with YouthWorks. Unfortunately, for some, this process also ends their YouthWorks experience as they are unable to procure all the necessary documentation to complete their registration in a timely fashion.
