A COUNCIL RESOLUTION concerning
Title
Submission of an Application to the State of Maryland for the Expansion of the Existing Fairfield Enterprise Zone to Include the Brooklyn, Curtis Bay, and Hawkins Point Areas

FOR the purpose of approving the submission of an application to the State of Maryland for the expansion of the existing Fairfield Enterprise Zone to include the Brooklyn, Curtis Bay, and Hawkins Point areas.
Body
WHEREAS, The City Council of Baltimore recognizes that there is a significant need to stimulate the creation of jobs in the Fairfield, Brooklyn, Curtis Bay, and Hawkins Point commercial and industrial areas; and

WHEREAS, The City of Baltimore and representatives of the Fairfield, Brooklyn, Curtis Bay, and Hawkins Point areas have been working towards this end; and

WHEREAS, The General Assembly of the State of Maryland established an Enterprise Zone Program to focus State and local resources on the encouragement of economic growth in economically distressed areas and employment opportunities for the chronically unemployed; and

WHEREAS, The City of Baltimore, through the Baltimore Development Corporation, has prepared an application for the expansion of the enterprise zone to include the Brooklyn, Curtis Bay, and Hawkins Point commercial and industrial areas; and
