American Education Week - November 12-18, 2006

FOR the purpose of promoting and supporting American Education Week, which will take place from November 12-18, 2006, and will focus on the theme "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility."

American Education Week will be celebrated from November 12-18, 2006. The theme of this years program is "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility." This theme highlights the importance of brining together educators, school staff, parents, students and communities in a unified effort to build great public schools. The theme also reflects NEA's vision of calling upon America to provide students with quality public schools so they can grow, prosper and achieve in the 21st century.

The week will include a kickoff celebration, a day for parents to join their children in school, a day to recognize education professionals, which include secretaries, classroom aides, maintenance workers, and others who provide invaluable services to school students, a day for community leaders to come and teach for a day, as well as a day to honor substitute teachers.
