A COUNCIL RESOLUTION concerning

America Recycles Day - November 15, 2010

FOR the purpose of celebrating America Recycles Day on November 15 and encouraging all of Baltimore to focus its attention on the importance of both recycling and making use of recycled products.

WHEREAS, Each year, Americans generate nearly 230 million tons of municipal solid waste; and

WHEREAS, Baltimore generates nearly 156,000 tons of municipal solid waste each year. While the amount of solid waste generated by Baltimoreans has decreased by 12 percent over the last year due to stepped up recycling efforts, much more can still be done by the City; and

WHEREAS, To focus Baltimore’s attention on the importance of recycling and closing the loop, businesses, industries, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals have joined together to celebrate America Recycles Day and are encouraging their employers, staff, customers, membership, and all citizens to pledge to buy more recycled products starting on November 15; and

WHEREAS, Participating in America Recycles Day is one way citizens can help raise awareness about the need to reduce waste by reusing, recycling, and buying recycled products; and
