Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, the representative for Maryland's 7th Congressional District, which includes a large portion of Baltimore City, has dedicated his life to serving others.  Born and raised in Baltimore City, where he still resides, he began his career of public service in the Maryland House of Delegates, where he served for 14 years and became the first African American in Maryland history to be named Speaker Pro Tem.  Since 1996, he has represented Maryland's 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Cummings is the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the main investigative committee in the House of Representatives, that has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program or any matter with federal policy implications.  He has sought to identify appropriate reforms that prevent waste, fraud, and abuse and that ensure that government programs meet the needs of citizens, and, in particular, he has been an advocate for the rights of those people facing foreclosure.  He is also a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, serving on the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transport and on the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, which deal with matters that impact Baltimore City's economy and economic development.

It is fitting way to honor this man, who has dedicated his life to serving others, by naming the new Greyhound Bus Station, which his efforts in Congress were integral to its building, the Elijah E. Cummings Greyhound Bus Terminal.

SECTION 1.  BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That the new Greyhound Bus Station, located at 2110 Haines Street, is named the Elijah E. Cummings Greyhound Bus Terminal.

SECTION 2.  AND BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, That this Ordinance takes effect on the 30th day after the date it is enacted.
