FOR the purpose of approving the submission of an application to the State of Maryland for a Tenant Improvement Grant for Wide Angle Youth Media, a nonprofit organization in the City of Baltimore that provides media education and skills training to Baltimore City Youth, for the purpose of expanding and improving its offices in Miller's Court in the Remington neighborhood, which project will enable Wide Angle Youth Media to expand the high school program's capacity by 20%, to increase the number of high school programs from 3 to 5, to increase the staff by 25%, and to provide adequate space to fully launch a social enterprise that will create new apprenticeship opportunities in media technology for Baltimore City youth.

   WHEREAS, Wide Angle Youth Media, a nonprofit organization that was established in 2000, has provided media education to more than 3,350 Baltimore City youth and encouraged greater youth engagement in their communities; and
 
  WHEREAS, Wide Angle Youth Media has been an active partner with the Baltimore City Public Schools in creating greater community awareness of the importance of school attendance and has maintained active, ongoing partnerships with the Enoch Pratt Free Library, the Baltimore City Office of Promotion and the Arts, the Open Society Institute - Baltimore, and many other government, university, and private institutions in Baltimore; and
 
  WHEREAS, Wide Angle Youth Media has launched a campaign to raise funds, in order to undertake a tenant improvement project (the "Project"); and
 
  WHEREAS, Wide Angle Youth Media has applied to the Department of Housing and Community Development of the State of Maryland for a tenant improvement grant to support the Project; and
 
  WHEREAS, The regulations of the Department of Housing and Community Development of the State of Maryland require the written expression of the sentiment of the Baltimore City Council.
 
  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That the City Council of Baltimore hereby expresses approval of the Project, as described above.  
   
   AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Secretary of the Department of Housing and Community Development of the State of Maryland, the Mayor, Wide Angle Youth Media, and the Mayor's Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
