Informational Hearing - School Safety
For the purpose of inviting representatives from the Baltimore City Public School System, the Baltimore Police Department, the Baltimore City School Police, the Baltimore Fire Department, including the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Division, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, the Mayor’s Office of African American Male Engagement, the Mayor’s Office of Children and Family Success, and the Community Action Partnership to brief the City Council regarding safety in our schools, current safety measurers and future steps to take to keep our students and school staff safe.

The Baltimore City Public School System is charged with the responsibility of keeping 77,000 students, 8,000 employees, service providers, and numerous visitors safe. Absent a learning, teaching, and working environment that is safe, students cannot achieve academically and will experience physical, social, and emotional consequences.
