   Across this nation teachers and public schools are struggling to provide a holistic education to all students due to the lack of resources faced by many jurisdictions.  Maryland public schools are not exempt from this crisis.  Funding for schools diminishes each year while the needs are ever-growing; especially in these difficult economic times, while many of our students live in poor economic conditions and have no voice to speak on their own behalf.

   To bring attention to the concerns of teachers, parents, and students for all in public schools, an organization has been created to highlight these issues.  The “Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action” is organizing a march and educational events in Washington, DC on July 30, 2011.

The four main focuses of the Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action are:

1.                     Equitable funding for all public school communities;

2.                     Ending high stakes testing for student, teacher, and school evaluation;

3.                     Curriculum development for and by local school communities; and

4.                     Promoting teacher and community leadership in forming public education policies.

   We the Baltimore City Council add our name as endorsers of this effort.

   NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That this Council supports the efforts to organize a Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action on July 30, 2011 in Washington, D.C.

   AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor, the organizers of the Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action, and the Mayor’s Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
