A RESOLUTION ENTITLED
A COUNCIL RESOLUTION concerning
Title
Maryland Food Bank
FOR the purpose of expressing approval of the application of the Maryland Food Bank to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development for approval Emergency Food for Baltimore City, a project that supports food distribution to the more than 500 emergency food providers in Baltimore City and for an allocation of tax credits for business entities that contribute to the project under the Department's Neighborhood Partnership Program.

Recitals
WHEREAS, The Maryland Food Bank, a nonprofit organization, proposes to undertake "Emergency Food for Baltimore City" the project described above (the "Project"); and
WHEREAS, The recipients of the Project's services include food pantries, soup kitchens, youth programs, rehabilitation centers, shelters, and other sites that provide food to the City's impoverished population. The Maryland Food Bank receives food from businesses that donate their salvage and excess inventory and also purchases high protein food to supplement donated products. This food is received, sorted, repackaged, and stored at the appropriate temperature, then either picked up by, or delivered to, the members of the network. These emergency providers use the food to prepare and serve meals and snacks and to distribute groceries to low income individuals and families.
WHEREAS, The Maryland Food Bank has applied to the Department of Housing and Community Development of the State of Maryland for approval of the Project and for an allocation of tax credits for business entities that contribute to the Project, under the Department's Neighborhood Partnership Program; and
WHEREAS, The Baltimore City Council approves the Emergency Food for Baltimore City project to provide food to the City's neediest citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That this Body hereby expresses approval of the application of the Maryland Food Bank to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development for approval of Emergency Food for Baltimore City, a project that supports food distribution to the more than 500 emergency food providers in Baltimore City and for an allocation of tax credits for business entities that contribute to the project under the Department's Neighborhood Partnership Program.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Commissioner of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, the Mayor, the Chief Executive Officer, the Maryland Food Bank, and the Mayor's Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
