Title
Closing Schools - Earmark Furniture for Charter Schools
FOR the purpose of requesting that the Baltimore City Public School System earmark furniture from the recent Baltimore City Public School closings for use in Charter Schools in Baltimore City.

With the recent Baltimore City Public School closings, there are many buildings that were once filled with students that are now empty. The learning that went on in these buildings has stopped, and students who once attended these institutions of learning now find themselves in new places. These buildings, which were once used to educate now sit vacant; however they are still full of furniture and supplies. There are currently 23 charter schools throughout Baltimore City that could use this furniture to help continue teaching our children.
There is simply no reason why furniture and supplies that were being used to help educate our children should not be used for this purpose because students are no longer using the building which houses the furniture. These furnishings should be earmarked to go to other institutions, with Baltimore City Charter Schools being the first to receive them. With so many communities in Baltimore City now looking to charter schools for the educational support and choice they need, support should be shown by earmarking the unused furniture from closing public schools for their use. The more tools that can be provided to these institutions of learning, the better they will be at providing our youth with the educational experiences they will need to grow, mature and become active, responsible and educated citizens of Baltimore City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That this Body requests that the Baltimore City Public School System earmark furniture from the recent Baltimore City Public School closings for use in Charter Schools.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor, the CEO of the Baltimore City Public School System, and the Mayor's Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
