In Support of "One Nation Working Together" - October 2, 2010 Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C.
 
FOR the purpose of endorsing One Nation's rally on October 2, 2010, expressing support for the goals of the One Nation movement to reorder the nation's priorities and to address unemployment, immigration, and economic issues, and encouraging Baltimore City residents to attend the October 2 rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

  WHEREAS, Our Nation is gripped by the worst economic crisis in 80 years; and
 
  WHEREAS, Official unemployment is nearly 10% while real unemployment, factoring in involuntary part-time and discouraged workers, is nearly double the official count; and
 
  WHEREAS, Baltimore City's unemployment rate is higher than the national average and is particularly high for youth; and
 
  WHEREAS, Our Nation is gripped by the worst economic crisis in 80 years, with an official unemployment rate of nearly 10% and a more realistic unofficial unemployment rate that factors in involuntary part-time and discouraged workers, nearly double the official count; and
 
  WHEREAS, Baltimore City's unemployment rate is higher than the national average and is particularly high for youth and working people in Baltimore, and across the nation people are frustrated by our government's inability to stem massive job losses and our declining standards of living; and
 
  WHEREAS, Some in Congress are obstructing legislation that would benefit working people and provide much needed relief for cities and loans for small business; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Great Recession has not dented the profits of Wall Street, which has made off with millions of public dollars; and
 
 
  WHEREAS, One Nation is a multi-racial, civil, and human rights movement, whose mission is to reorder our nations priorities; and
 
  WHEREAS, One Nation is a long term effort to reverse the dangerous economic course of our country; and
 
  WHEREAS, One Nation goals are more good jobs, reforming Wall Street, repairing our immigration system, and guaranteeing a quality education for every child; and
 
  WHEREAS, One Nation has set a rally for Washington D.C. on October 2, 2010; and
 
  WHEREAS, The rally will bring together hundreds of thousands of American marching under the banners of jobs, fairness, equality and recapturing the American Dream.
 
  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That the Baltimore City Council endorses One Nation's rally in Washington at the Lincoln Memorial on October 2, 2010.
  
   AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Baltimore City Council urges all citizens to attend the rally and make October 2 a day that will be remembered in history as the day the people of the United States began to change our nation's priorities.
 
  AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor, the President of Maryland AFL-CIO, and the Mayor's Liaison to the City Council.
