(Resolution)
Introduced by: Councilmember Holton
A RESOLUTION ENTITLED
A COUNCIL RESOLUTION concerning
title
In Honor of Helen Jones - A Community Hero
FOR the purpose of expressing Baltimore City's gratitude to Helen Jones, whose community- spirited vigilance led to the rescue of one of our littlest citizens and who demonstrated by her actions that it does, indeed, take a village to raise and to protect our children.

Recitals
When Helen Jones left her home for a doctor's appointment on the early morning of July 12th, she had no inkling that by day's end she would be hailed as a hero, nor was that a consideration when she opened her arms and her heart to a little boy, 8-year-old Darrick Charles Brown, who had been cruelly snatched off the familiar streets near his home by persons with malice of intent.
Ms. Jones recognized the little boy from the pictures that had been released to the media the night before, as his family and law enforcement frantically sought information about the child who had been abducted by persons unknown as he walked with friends near his home at approximately 6:30 p.m. the previous evening.
Ms. Jones serves as a reminder to us all that as members of our larger communities, our villages, we have to look out for each other and, in particular, for those the least able to look out for themselves. For that we all say a sincere and heartfelt - Thank You!
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That this Body hereby expresses Baltimore City's gratitude to Helen Jones, whose community-spirited vigilance led to the rescue of one of our littlest citizens and who demonstrated by her actions that it does, indeed, take a village to raise and to protect our children.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to Helen Jones, the family of Darrick Charles Brown, the Mayor, and the Mayor's Legislative Liaison to the City Council.
