Recitals
On April 27, 2007, Mayor Sheila Dixon marked the 100th day after being sworn in as the City's 48th Mayor and first woman to hold the office, by reflecting on the commitments she made to the citizens of Baltimore to dedicate her time, energy, and talents and those of her administration to making Baltimore a cleaner, safer, healthier, and more inclusive city.
To accomplish the goals of making Baltimore cleaner, greener, safer, and healthier, in the first 100 days the Dixon administration launched the Cleaner Baltimore Initiative, instigated changes in policing that reduced excessive force complaints and violent crime, and worked with the City Council to pass a ban on smoking in bars and restaurants.
At the celebration of a successful completion of 100 days in office, the Mayor remarked that "from community groups to City employees, everyone has embraced the goals we laid out for Baltimore, and I am pleased with the progress we have made in a relatively short time." The Council and the citizens of Baltimore will work with the Mayor to ensure that the progress stays on track to produce an improved Baltimore that shelters and nurtures those who live here and welcomes the many that visit our lovely home each year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE, That this Body congratulates Sheila Dixon, the first woman Mayor of Baltimore City, on completing her first 100 days in office and pledges to work with the Administration to make the remainder of the term as rewarding as the first 100 days.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor.
