A COUNCIL RESOLUTION concerning
Title
In Support of National Family Month

FOR the purpose of expressing support for the national celebration of the family and recognizing the importance of the more than 125,000 families in Baltimore City that provide the spiritual, economic, and social "threads" that secure the fabric of our many diverse neighborhoods.

Recitals

U. S. Census figures show that, in 2005, there were 243,000 households in Baltimore City with an average household size of 2.5 people. Families make up to 52% of these households - this figure includes both married-couple families (24 percent) and other families (28 percent) - , and nonfamily households made up 48 percent. In homage to the families of Baltimore, the Baltimore City Council endorses House Concurrent Resolution # 302:

Recognizing the importance of children and families in the United States
and expressing support for the goals of National Kids Day(r) and National Family Month(r).

Whereas, there is an epidemic of children in crisis in the United States caused by the increased stresses on children from contemporary society, which can even include instances of child abuse and neglect;
