FOR the purpose of congratulating Margaret May, a 5th grade teacher at Mount Washington Elementary School, on being chosen as Baltimore City Schools 2011 Teacher of the Year and expressing appreciation for her dedication to the education of Baltimore City’s young scholars.

Recitals

In a surprise visit from Dr. Andrés A. Alonso, CEO of Baltimore City Schools, Ms. May found that she had been named Baltimore City Schools 2011 Teacher of the Year and, as such, is also a candidate for Maryland Teacher of the Year this fall, the winner of which becomes the state’s nominee for National Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Alonso said: “Every day of the year we see excellent teaching and learning in our classrooms, but on this one day each year we lift up the work of one particular educator, and for me this is a true honor. We glimpse into the great work of one individual teacher, and in turn celebrate the incredibly hard work and dedication of so many. Ms. May engages her students and instills in them her passion for reading, discovering, growing. But her work and her commitment don’t stop there.
