Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles appearing at the Baltimore Civic Center

FOR the purpose of commending the efforts of the Civic Commission for securing the performers who went on to change the social and popular culture of the times, making Baltimore City a part of that historic event; and Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles appearing at the Baltimore Civic Center.

Recitals

WHEREAS, on September 13, 1814, the citizens of Baltimore took up arms against British Invaders and repelled them.

WHEREAS, on September 13, 1964, exactly One Hundred Fifty years later, the citizens of Baltimore opened their arms to welcome the “British Invasion” in Popular Music with the arrival of the Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, four lads from Liverpool, England, a port city much like ours.

WHEREAS, the Baltimore Civic Center was dedicated in 1963 with the commitment to bring to the citizens of Baltimore only the best in sports and entertainment.

WHEREAS, the members of the Civic Center Commission actively sought an appearance by this group of musicians who constituted a pop/rock phenomenon.
